Gabrielle donates 40% of all her pottery proceeds split between the following two charities:

Canadian Food for Children

Canadian Food for Children is a registered Canadian charity that distributes food, clothing and medicine to the poor in about 40 countries, including Canada. This charity has no overhead expenses. (Volunteers pay for their own transportation, photo-copying and postage is donated, etc.) Donations are used to purchase bulk grains from Canadian farmers, and to pay Canadian truck companies and shipping companies etc. Each donation of $1.00 provides the equivalent of 40 good meals for the poor overseas.

Note: This is not the same charity as Canadian Feed the Children

Souman Nafaman, french for 'Seeds of Hope'

Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world. It has a high proportion of school age children. There are many children who have been orphaned. Without assistance, they have little or no chance of attending school. A result, they end up on the street.

In 2005 a group of French citizens wanting to make a difference came together in order to improve the situation for a small number of these children. They created the orphanage now called Souman Nafaman which means Seeds of Hope.

The primary goal of Souman Nafaman is, through donations from its sponsors, to finance the basic needs of the children at the orphanage, including room and board, health and education.

I have decided to choose this charity in part because Brigitte Roussel (Information and Communication Secretary of Souman Nafaman), is a trusted friend so she can be sure that the donated funds will be put to good use.

As well, I donate between 75 and 100 bowls each year to Hamilton Food Share, available at the Fall Hamilton Potter's Guild Sale
